Hello All!
Winter and holiday season are right around the corner and with the seasonal change
comes somesurprises in the condition of your skin.
Many of my clients express difficulties with maintaining a healthy skin complexion throughout
the changing the seasons. Regardless of the region you live in, we are all exposed to
environmental changes resulting in challenges to maintaining your natural glow.
I have gathered some questions from AMOREPACIFIC clients and have provided answers to
share to help you to overcome environmental obstacles.
A: This is a question that I hear all of the time. To answer this, I need to explain a few mis-
conceptions regarding the skin.
As a whole, we have a tendency to use the terms ¡®dry¡¯ and ¡®dehydrated¡¯ interchangeably. We
also use ¡®oily¡¯ and ¡®hydrated¡¯ interchangeably. This is a mistake since these terms do not
relate to the same things.
Dry skin and dehydrated skin may both feel rough and tight but Dry skin is the result of not
having enough oils in the skin. Dry skin may be a result of Genetics or certain irritants
(detergents for example). Dry skin is weak skin and may cause water loss. This is where
dehydrated skin comes in to the picture.
Dehydration occurs from a lack of water in the skin. Dehydrated skin occurs through
moisture evaporation through the skin due to environmental exposure. Think about if you
are outside in a windstorm. Your skin may feel chapped even though you feel that your skin
tends to be oily. Your skin type has not changed to dry; your dehydration level has
increased.
To promote healthy hydration levels, you want to be using products that maintain healthy oil
and water levels in the skin. This can be achieved by using a proper cleanser (you should
not feel ¡®tight¡¯ after your cleanser), toner, hydration spray and moisturizer. Serums are an
excellent addition to a basic regimen to promote balance in the protection of the skin.
A: Yes! Absolutely! Your skin is a protective organ and is exposed every day. You want to use
a moisturizer that is light in texture, but can provide you with hydration for protection against
water loss
A: Once again, you must make sure that you are deciphering between dry or dehydrated skin. If your skin type is dry or normal to dry, you want to be protecting your skin day and night with a moisturizer that reinforces the skin¡¯s protective barrier to discourage water loss. Just because a creme is thick, does not mean that it is hydrating. You want the ingredients, not the texture, to provide you with your hydration. Things such as bamboo sap and natures oils, such as Jojoba oil will help to keep you moisturized. A hydration spray like our Skin Energy will help prevent dehydration that often accompanies dryness.
Exfoliation is a huge need for insuring that your products will penetrate your skin healthy skin cells. During times of extreme dryness, you may want to use your Treatment Enzyme Peel more frequently.
A: No. A change in your entire regimen (from your Cleansing to your final Moisture step) is
an extreme and unnecessary measure. Instead, opt to change some steps. For example,
in the summer heat, we feel humidity which can cause us to feel more oily. If you have been
using a Cleansing Oil, you may want to switch to a Cleansing Foam to give you a ¡®squeaky
clean¡¯ feel without depleting your skin of hydration.
You may want to adjust the type of moisturizer that you are using on your skin to a lighter
version. For example, if you are using the Moisture Bound Vitalizing Creme for Fall and
Winter, you may want to lighten up to the Moisture Bound Vitalizing Complex.
I cannot stress enough the importance of a great Serum to help with seasonal change. The
Bio Enzyme Refining Complex will protect you from the environment and provide enzymes
that will encourage penetration of the key ingredients in your products. The Clarifying Serum
will help to slow your sebum secretion if excessive oil production is a concern.
A: Yes. Imagine if you needed to see a Dentist and instead went to a Dermatologist office.
Both are needed in your life for health and wellness, but one cannot do what the other does.
It is the same with skincare. The skin around the eye area is delicate and thinner than the
skin on the rest of the face and neck. You need to address the eye area as a separate entity.
Whether your concern is puffiness, dark circles, lines or prevention, the right eye product will
provide you with the needs suitable for your concerns.
